Legacy giving with a will

You can create a legacy by naming Global Fund for Education Assistance | BEYOND Tomorrow as a beneficiary of your estate.

  • Types of wills: There are two types of wills – formal will and holograph will. In both cases, various conditions need to be satisfied in order for the will to be administered properly. A formal will, which is officially notarized, is more likely to avoid trouble, compared to a holograph will, which can be created by the testator alone.
  • Administrator of the will: Upon designating the administrator of the will, many individuals choose experts such as lawyers, judicial scriveners, administrative scriveners, tax accountants, or trust banks to ensure that the will be administered from a neutral position.
  • Form of legacy gifts: We appreciate legacy gifts in the form of cash; we cordially decline gifts in the form of real estate, equity and securities.
  • Legally secured estate: Legal heirs have the right to the estate when the owner of the asset is deceased. Legally secured estates are to be divided among legal heirs excluding the deceased’s siblings at a legally designated ratio. Therefore, careful consideration is recommended upon creating a will.
  • Reporting: If you let us know that you included Global Fund for Education Assistance | BEYOND Tomorrow in your estate plans, we will register your information and send you program updates.

Spotlight: Legacy giving

– Legacy giving for the late Jiro Murase – When Jiro Murase, who made exceptional contributions to the U.S.-Japan relations as a lawyer, passed away in 2014, the Murase family made a donation to BEYOND Tomorrow with the condolence money and funeral offering. With the funds, BEYOND Tomorrow U.S. Summer Program was undertaken, giving BEYOND Tomorrow students opportunities to visit the United States and receive leadership training. During his lifetime, Jiro Murase wished that Japanese youths see America, meet American people and learn about American Society. His will is indeed realized today with many BEYOND Tomorrow students travelling outside Japan, seeing the world and finding their roles to make society a better place despite the challenges they faced in their upbringing.
