BEYOND Tomorrow College Scholarship Program 2015
～Tohoku survivors mature into empathetic adults～
BEYOND Tomorrow provides scholarships for students graduating high school and pursuing further studies at a university, junior college, or other higher education institute. All of the funds come from private donations, and the scholarships are stipend scholarships that do not have to be repaid. The motivation for establishing these scholarships is the belief that students who have overcome great difficulties and are seeking learning opportunities so that they can become contributing members of society are a great asset, and that we should invest in the education of such students.
Any student who was living in the Tohoku region at the time of the disaster and who wishes to go on to higher education after graduating from high school may apply, and the scholarship program does not consist solely of financial aid, but also provides various leadership development programs for participating students. The fact that the scholarships place significant value on the concept of all-round education is one feature that makes BEYOND Tomorrow’s scholarships unique. For new scholarships, the success rate of applicants is less than one in ten, and each year scholarship recipients are selected by way of not only a written application process, but also through interviews that place emphasis on the individual person and that are conducted using a selection committee made up of experts active in various different fields. Successful applicants have a diverse range of academic abilities, future visions, and backgrounds, and each of them is searching for their own way to be of service to others.
